
Vice Admiral Steve Moorhouse CBE

Vice Admiral Steve Moorhouse was appointed as Fleet Commander in September 2025 and is responsible for the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the Royal Navy.
He joined the Royal Navy as a University Cadet and, following flying training, experienced a wide variety of flying with 849 NAS, including front line operations in the Northern Arabian Gulf and Sierra Leone.
He has combined his aviation experience with a wide variety of command appointments that have included: the Offshore Patrol Vessels HMS Severn and HMS Clyde; the Type 23 Frigate HMS Lancaster; the helicopter carrier HMS Ocean as well as the aircraft carriers HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales. As a Commodore, he had the privilege of Formation Command with CTF150, a multi-national task force charged with delivering Maritime Security across the western Indian Ocean and the UK Carrier Strike Group for the inaugural QUEEN ELIZABETH Strike Group operational deployment to the Indo-Pacific.
Staff appointments have primarily focused on the Ministry of Defence and included Capability Strategy, with responsibility for balancing financial resource with military capability, and the Operations Directorate, where he had oversight of Operational Capability and Force Generation across the totality of Defence activity. Most recently he held the role of Assistant Chief of Defence Staff for Operations and Commitments, directing Defence activity at home and abroad.
An alumnus of the Joint Services Higher Command and Staff Course and the Defence Strategic Leadership Programme, Moorhouse was appointed OBE in the 2015 New Year Honours and promoted to CBE in 2022.
